C4C party encourages Kono people to turn up for census

The Parliamentary Leader for the Coalition for Change (C4C), Honourable Saa Emerson Lamina has made a clarion call to all locals of Kono District to participate in this December Mid-Term Housing and Population Census.

The C4C Parliamentary Leader referred to the census process as an ‘effective and effectual’ campaign that begs for the need to sensitise and raise awareness among the electorate for their positive and active participation.

Biometric property registration for Sierra Leone

As a way of minimizing the huge controversy over land ownership in the country, Parliament of Sierra Leone on Wednesday 15th December, 2021 approved the biometric property registration agreement between the government of Sierra Leone and Landreg SL Limited for the establishment of property registration for especially land and housing across the country.

The agreement seeks government support relating to the procurement of Biometric property registration project on a build, operate and transfer basis.  

Parliament ratifies mining company agreements

Parliament has ratified two mining agreements, a Large Scale Mining Agreement between the government of Sierra Leone and Marampa Mines Limited, and that between the government and Sierra Rutile Limited

The cancellation of license of the previous mining company, Sierramin Bauxite Limited, was as a result of its failure to adhere to its obligations in the mining community that include non- payment of the surface rent and the salaries of 394  of its workers at the Marampa and the Maforkie  Chiefdoms in Port Loko District.

UNICEF Launches Children Photography Exhibition

One of Sierra Leone’s development partners in education UNICEF in collaboration with the Initiative for Media Development (IMDev) has on the 14th December 2021 launched the photography exhibition to enhance child rights through the lens of children in Kenema. The children's photography exhibition was done by fifteen children both male and female from selected schools trained by IMDev with support from UNICEF as part of the commemoration of the organization’s humanitarian services for 75 years in full operations.

The call came at a Stakeholders Conference jointly hosted by Stats SL and National Council for Civic Education and Development (NaCCED) that was held at the Kingtom Bank Complex, Freetown on Thursday 16th December 2021.

50 years imprisonment for murder

Justice Ivan Sesay has sentenced Foday Sannoh to 50 years imprisonment for murder.

The young man was sentenced on Thursday 16th December 2021 at the High Court in Freetown.

Sannoh was charged together with nine others on a three-count charge of conspiracy to commit a murder, murder and burying a human body in a place other than a cemetery.
