Mass Covid19 vaccination of students in eastern Sierra Leone

 An extensive vaccination of secondary school and university students in Kenema against Covid-19 ends this Friday 11 February 2022. Students of secondary schools and those at the Eastern Technical University (ETU) were targeted for the inoculation. 

According to the District Medical Officer Dr. Donald Samuel Grant, young people from 12 to 17 years have been included after the previous official arrangement of starting vaccination from 18 years. The Pfizer vaccine was administered during the exercise.

Following complaints from residents in the cities of Bo and Kenema about the poor electricity, shortly after the introduction of the West Africa Power Pool that promised uninterrupted energy supply, the firm responsible has issued a press release explaining the reasons for the outage.  TRANSCO CLSG said there was a break in transmission of the 225Kv line from Man to the Yekepa substation in Liberia caused by a very long tree that fell on the conductor outside the 40-meter CLSG transmission line corridor.    

Sierra Leone shuts down iron rod warehouses

The Minister of Trade and Industry, Edward Hinga Sandi, and the team have made an on-the-spot check on businesses around Freetown and have closed some stores selling iron rods after he claimed the owners did not attend a meeting summoned. Sandi had gone out checking on stores selling iron rods and cement after concerns were raised about pricing.

Sierra Leone education budget above Africa Average-World Bank Vice President

The World Bank Vice President for Western and Central Africa, Ousmane Diagana has commended Sierra Leone’s effort in human capital development through access to education. He says the small West Africa Country of Sierra Leone is among few nations with about 20 percent budgetary allocation to education.

“This is one of the few countries in Africa that allocate more than 20 percent of the budget to education. In the context of the human capital agenda, Sierra Leone remains a priority. Education is fundamental,” Diagana said.

No date for graduation at University of Sierra Leone

The Director of Media and Communications of the University of Sierra Leone, Dr. Tonya Musa, has dismissed as untrue graduation dates shared on social media.

“We have graduation week, but we have not yet fixed dates for graduation,” Dr. Musa said. “The university will come out with dates to inform its graduands appropriately.”
