Sierra Leone makes progress in Women’s Economic Empowerment

Women, Business and the Law 2022 report has highlighted  Sierra Leone’s ‘tremendous’ progress on Women’s Economic Empowerment in Africa.

According to the report published by the World Bank Group on the 1st March 2022, the country has reached 100 on Entrepreneurship by legally prohibiting gender-based discrimination in financial services which makes access to credit easier for women. The report highlighted challenges in the area of Parenthood where the regional average score is 45.

Sierra Leone lights up Masiaka

Masiaka Town in Koya Chiefdom has for the first time received a "no tax power supply" after the Minister of Energy Alhaji Kanja Sesay switched on the light on the 25th February 2022 during the commissioning of the mini-grid in the community. During the programme, the Minister said the people will enjoy electricity without any tax.

Sierra Leone ambassador chairs WTO TRIPS

Sierra Leone’s ambassador and Permanent Representative of Sierra Leone to the United Nations, WTO, and other International Organizations in Geneva, Switzerland has on Friday 25th February 2022 been unanimously appointed by the World Trade Organization (WTO) General Council to serve as the chair of the Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS) Council.

Lansana Gberie was among 13 chairpersons appointed to steer WTO bodies for the year 2022.
