Sierra Leonean woman “raped” & killed yet no charges

Two weeks after the body of 20-year-old Grace Lamboi was found around the Njala Experimental School in Mokonde, Moyamba district, the Police still have in their custody the initial suspect arrested in the matter. However, the matter is yet to be charged to court.

The Deputy Police Media and Public Relations Officer, Southern Region, Constable Alhaji Osman Mansaray told Politico that the matter is now with the State Counsel for legal advice before it is charged to court.

Asst. UN Scribe urges Sierra Leone to implement gender laws

The Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations and Deputy Executive Director of UN Women, Asa Regner has commended Sierra Leone’s policy reforms towards gender equality but urged that the policies be implemented to reflect the reality.

The United Nations Assistant Scribe was addressing pressmen in Freetown on Friday, 1st of July 2022 after holding several engagements with government officials, and Civil Society Groups during her visit to Sierra Leone.

Sierra Leone, Saudi Arabia sign labour agreement

The prospect of ordinary Sierra Leoneans working in the Gulf Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has gained recognition at the highest level, following the signing of a labour agreement between Sierra Leone and Saudi Arabia.

The agreement was signed by the Labour and Social Security Minister of Sierra Leone, Alpha Timbo and the Saudi Vice Minister of Labour Affairs,Dr. Abdullah Nasser Abuthnain.

Sierra Leone main opposition boycotts 2022 Election Act debate

Members of Parliament representing the main opposition    All People’s Congress (APC) party in parliament have for the second time refused to debate the 2022 Elections Act on the grounds of first amending the country’s constitution before the continuation of the debate.

They had first boycotted the first reading and debate claiming not to have received the document by then.

More investors to penetrate Africa - IIP survey report

The Sierra Leone Investment and Export Promotion Agency (SLIEPA) has presented a report called International Investors Perception Survey (IIPS) for Sierra Leone which states that “83% of potential investors surveyed indicated they have plans to expand operations in Africa”.

The report was prepared by a company called Wavteq through the African Development Bank.
