Opposition MPs condemn NIN criteria to register to vote

Members of the opposition  All People’s Congress (APC) party and the National Grand Coalition (NGC) have during their debate on a bill entitled Public Elections Act 2022 condemned Clause (13) of the proposed bill which makes the National Identification Number (NIN) a requirement for citizens to be registered.

Sierra Leone to recruit over 1,000 more teachers

The Government of Sierra Leone through the Teaching Service Commission (TSC) is set to commence the process of recruiting over one thousand (1,000) teachers adding to the over 36,000 teachers that are already on the government payroll.

Sierra Leone Parliament to go digital

In an effort to make Sierra Leone’s parliament move from paper-based to digital, Orange SL, a telecommunication company has supported the law-making body with ten computers according to the Clerk of Parliament, Paran Umar Tarawally.

Speaking during the presentation ceremony of the ten computers on the 14th July 2022, he explained that parliament as an arm of government is speedily moving towards making their systems paperless and that Orange Company has joined them to make it a reality.

Stakeholders commit to fight maternal death

Stakeholders in Nongowa Chiefdom, Kenema District have pledged their support to the fight against Maternal Deaths in their locality during a community meeting to address the problem.

Speaking at the meeting, the District Medical Officer (DMO), Dr. Donald Samuel Grant said they will also ensure that local authorities come onboard in putting measures in place to minimize maternal death in chiefdoms and the district as a whole.
