Kono to get nonstop power supply, assures President Bio

As CLSG completes work on the Kono sub-station line, President Julius Maada Bio has promised uninterrupted electricity for residents of Kono District, starting the 10th of October this year; the diamondiferous district joining other places such as  Kenema and Bo that have since been powered by the grid.

Bio made this commitment on the 4th of October 2022 during a nationwide tour.

He said lighting up Kono is part of his government’s commitment to electrify all district headquarter towns.

Sierra Leone arrests suspected drug traffickers from Liberia

Three foreign nationals suspected of involvement in a cocaine trafficking ring in Liberia have been arrested along the border with Sierra Leone.

A statement from the Office of National Security (ONS), says a Guinean, Liberian, and Lebanese were believed to have been members of a drug cartel linked to 520 kilograms of cocaine that was recently seized by Liberia’s Drug Enforcement Agency.

Sierra Leone resumes extended voter registration

The additional two days awarded by the Electoral Commission Sierra Leone for voter registration in centres that were opened during the first phase commences today. The Director of Media and Communications at the ECSL Raymond George stated that the two days are compensation for the challenges faced during the first phase of the registration exercise.

“The extended period will be limited to all the one thousand eight hundred and fifteen registration centres of the first phase,” said George.

$ 100,000 for media investment in Sierra Leone

In an effort to support the Media industry in Sierra Leone, the International Fund for Public Interest Media has approved a 100,000 United States dollar (one hundred thousand) grant to enhance media investment in Sierra Leone. Fifty percent of the approved grant is said to be disbursed by November this year.

Police detain Ady Macauley

Former Anti -Corruption Commissioner, Ady Macauley was detained last evening (Thursday 6 October) at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) after a lengthy interrogation in relation to an interview he granted on the African Young Voices Television about people's right to protest, according to one of his lawyers. 

Speaking to Politico, Lawyer Saidu Bangura said their request for bail was denied by the police and therefore, their client had to pass the night in detention.

Sierra Leone to survey fertilizer distribution

The Executive Director of the National Fertilizer Regulatory Agency (NaFRA), Dr. Andrew BaMusa Koroma noted that, as part of their Fiscal Year (FY) 2023 deliverables, they will implement Regional Survey on Fertilizer distribution and utilization patterns in the country.

This was disclosed at the annual budget hearing in the ministry of Finance.
