Sierra Leone buries protest victims today

The remains of civilians killed in the 10 August anti-government protests are to be buried by the state today Monday. 

This was confirmed by relatives of three of the 25 civilian victims who spoke to Politico on condition of anonymity. 

First female football league kicks off in Sierra Leone

The much- anticipated first ever national female football league kicked off on Saturday at the Wusum field in Makeni, an event that was witnessed by President Julius Maada Bio and First Lady Fatima Bio and other dignitaries.  Mena Queens from Makeni engaged their counterparts Kahunla Queens from Kenema in league opener.

The first half  was an entertaining encounter between Mena Queens of Makeni and Kahunla Queens of Kenema that however ended nil- nil.

Synchronisation linked to power outages - energy minister

Sierra Leone’s Minister of Energy, Alhaji Kanja Sesay, says the interruptions in the smooth supply of electricity to parts of the Western Area was because of hitches in synchronising the new CLSG power system  alongside the existing Bumbuna and Karpowership sources of electricity generation. 

Sesay made the disclosure on the Ministry of Information and Communication’s Facebook page programme “Leh we talk to di minister” . 

Court to examine LAJ’s bail application today

High Court Judge, Adrian Fisher, of High Court No. 1 in Freetown is expected to look at the bail application of Sierra Leonean Musician, Alhaji Amadu Bah aka LAJ, after perusing his medical report presented to the court on Friday October 14.

Defence lawyer, Madieu Sesay had requested that Justice Fisher considers “especially the medical report” served by a medical director. Relying on section 23(4), Lawyer Sesay said the accused is still innocent. “There is no report for him with regards to bad behaviour,” he said.

New NCRA centre for pupils

The National Civil Registration Authority (NCRA) has established a National Identification Number (NIN) registration centre at Kingtom Police Mess for pupils and students residing in the Western Area. The Ministry of Basic Education recently made NIN a requirement for pupils wanting to take public exams.  

SLRTC to construct rest places on provincial routes

The Sierra Leone Road Transport Corporation (SLRTC) says it will construct rest places for passengers travelling along the provincial routes.

SLRTC General Manager, Isaac Ken-Green told a news conference at the Ministry of Information that SLRTC is to build the rest places at Masiaka, Moyamba Junction and Bo for passengers travelling over long distances.

Contractor has no competency – Dr. Alie Kabba testifies

Sierra Leone’s former Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Dr. Alie Kabba has revealed that the fifth accused, Jules Sanders Davies, who was the contractor for the reconstruction and renovation of the Sierra Leone Chancery Building in Manhattan, New York, United States of America, between 2011 and 2019, had no competency for the project.

Over $ 4,000,000 (four million Dollars) was allegedly transferred for that purpose between these years, according to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
