EU supports local production of infant formulas

In a bid to reduce infant mortality resulting from malnutrition in children in Sierra Leone, the European Union has supported local producers of infant formulas made from home grown nutritious food items for a healthy outcome.

MP emphasizes Parliament's commitment to transparency

Deputy Speaker of Parliament Ibrahim Tawa Conteh has assured that Parliament will be more open to the people of Sierra Leone.

The MP made this commitment during the launch of the National Council for Civic Education and Democracy’s (NaCCED) Strategic Plan for the period 2024-2028.

He promised that as parliamentarians they will continue to take conscious steps and actions including consultations that will meet the expectations of the populace.

Sierra Leone opposition leader blasts ACC over cash loss

Despite revelations made in the Auditor -General’s Report regarding the huge sum of monies unaccounted for by the government, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has refused to investigate and bring those found culpable to book, said the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Abdul Kargbo.

Kargbo made this statement at their party’s maiden parliamentary press conference on the 29th May 2024.

Sierra Leone to de-amalgamate more chiefdoms

The Minister of Local Government and Community Affairs, Tamba Lamina has said they are working on de-amalgamating chiefdoms where he said there is power struggle and persistent disunity.

Lamina was updating newsmen of his ministry’s activities at the government’s weekly press conference held at Foreign Affairs Ministry in Freetown on 28th May 2024.

“The Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs is working on de-amalgamating some chiefdoms, a process that was started by the previous government,” he added.

Female journalists get digital media literacy training

The Media Reform Coordinating Group (MRCG) through the Media Foundation for West Africa with funding support from the Embassy of the Netherlandss in Ghana has trained 50 female journalists and female Civil Society Activists in digital literacy and fact checking in an effort to combat fake news across Sierra Leone.

500  innovators  to participate in Tech Summit

The Ministry of Communications, Technology and Innovation, in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth, is set to bring together 500 young and emerging innovators from the provinces to participate in the 2024 Sierra Leone Innovates Tech Summit in Freetown.
