Over 900,000 people to access electricity - Bio

Speaking during the launching of the first Gas Power Generation Plant in Sierra Leone, President Julius Maada Bio has on 18th June 2024 at the Kissy Terminal in Freetown said the plant would provide an additional 900,000 consumers with electricity supply.

Senegal, Sierra Leone commit to strengthen ties

Sierra Leone and Senegal have reaffirmed their commitment to stronger economic and development ties in a joint communiqué at State House yesterday, following a day’s working visit to Freetown by the Senegalese President Bassirou  Diomaye Faye.

The communiqué which is an upgrade of a joint economic cooperation agreement signed between the two countries some three years ago, highlighted  the strengthening of aviation relations and development engagements in various other sectors.

Parliament accuses Finance of breaches

Deputy Speaker of the Sierra Leone Parliament Ibrahim Tawa Conteh says investigations done by the law making institution uncovered acts of spending outside the allocated and approved budget by the Ministry of Finance (MoF).

Conteh made the claims on Monday this week during questioning of representatives of the MoF by the Parliamentary Public Accounts Committee chaired by the deputy speaker.

Opposition urges state enterprises to pay loans

According to the Auditor General’s Report the Sierra Leone Airports Authority, Sierra Leone Postal Services and Sierra Leone Road Transport Corporation are three State Owned Enterprises (SOEs) that have not paid loans issued to them by the government. The Deputy Leader of the Opposition 2 Aaron Aruna Koroma has stressed that an arrangement should be made on how these institutions should repay.
