UNICEF to celebrate Children’s Day in Parliament

The Speaker of Parliament Chernor Abass Bundu has granted permission to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to commemorate this year’s International Children’s Day event in Parliament.

The request was granted on the 16th November 2022, whilst the celebration will take place around the precincts Parliament this Monday 21st November 2022, later in the day.

UNICEF’s Representative Dr. Suleiman Braimah said they want to use Parliament to celebrate a symbolic event.

Guard remanded for “stealing” IPAM blocks

Magistrate Mark Ngegba of the Pademba Road Court No. 1 in Freetown has remanded Abdulrahman Bayoh, a Security Guard at a construction site of the Institute of Public Administration and Management (IPAM), for allegedly stealing 16,500 (sixteen thousand five hundred) hollow cement blocks meant for the site.

Bayoh, 38, faces a charge of Larceny.

NaCCED trains teachers on Civics

The National Council for Civic Education and Development (NaCCED) has conducted a two day interactive session teachers from Primary and Junior Secondary Schools in Kenema district on the teaching of Civics in schools as a core subject.

 Deputy District Director, Teaching Service Commission (TSC) ,Tamba S. Bockarie referred to the training as significant and timely for the educational sector and for the future development of the country.

Sierra Leone registers more than 3 million voters

Provisional data released by the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone (ECSL) shows that 3,268,855 (three million, two hundred and sixty eight thousand, eight hundred and fifty five) people were registered nationwide  in September and October, in preparation for the country’s 2023 General Elections.

The total figure published excluded under age children and duplicated data that were captured during the registration process.

PPRC cautions APC Chairman over allegations of meddling

The Political Parties Registration Commission (PPRC) has cautioned the Chairman of the Interim Governance Transition Committee (IGTC) of the All People’s Congress Party (APC), Alfred Peter Conteh for accusing the commission of involvement in the party’s wrangling.

The PPRC letter dated Wednesday16th November, 2022 and addressed to Conteh was in response to another letter reportedly written by him in which he expressed “concern about the formation of district registration agents.”

Over 500 vehicles clamped for offences

The Public Relations Officer of the Sierra Leone Roads Safety Authority (SLRSA) Abdul Karim Dumbuya has revealed that they have over  five hundred vehicles in their custody for various public service offences.

Speaking to Politico on the 15th November 2022, Dumbuya said: “we are enforcing the rules together with the Police, the Road Safety Corps and we issue tickets for some of those offences”.

He said the laws have been in existence and embedded in the Road Traffic Act 2007 and Road Traffic Regulation of 2011.

Beach Bar owners in Sierra Leone capital excited over festive season

Owners of Beach Bars have expressed excitement over the upcoming festive season where they say they usually get large sales, and are well prepared for the season as it approaches.

Manager at the J.J Sport at Lumley Beach Road, Juliana Joseph told Politico that though the festive season is around the corner, business has not been lucrative as expected. She said sales are low, compared to the previous seasons.
