Ship ‘targeted’ by pirates to be brought ashore in Sierra Leone

Days after a cargo ship owned by Greek Company Ainaftis was spotted stranded and stuck off the coast of Bonthe District in the south of Sierra Leone, state security sources have confirmed that it will be brought ashore.

Politico learnt that Personnel of the country’s Navy had boarded the vessel that was said to be stuck on a sandbank and were being briefed by the crew believed to be mostly Pakistani that had successfully thwarted an attempted piracy.

Banker remanded for “embezzlement”

Magistrate Isata Sellu-Tucker of Pademba Road Court No. 2 in Freetown has remanded Almira Abdullah, a former banker of Ecobank Sierra Leone Limited, Lunsar Branch, for allegedly embezzling the sum of Le 200,000,000 (two hundred million Leones) of the bank’s money.

The 34-year-old accused is before the court for counts of Embezzlement contrary to section 17(1) (b) of the Larceny Act of 1916 and Larceny by Servant contrary to section 17(1) (a) of the same act.

FSSG encroachers evicted

On Tuesday 22 November 2022, a truckload of Police from the Operational Support Division demolished makeshift structures located along a stretch of the Fence of Freetown Secondary School for Girls (FSSG) on Hannah Benka-Coker Street in Freetown.

The place was for long used for the selling of food and other businesses and as a garage by commercial tricycle (‘Kekeh’) riders.

The Police action came as a result of series of complaints from the school authorities on the unfavourable scenes around the school’s precincts.

Manslaughter matter sent to High Court

A matter involving Susan Komba charged for allegedly killing Dennis Komba has been sent to the High Court for trial.

The accused, Susan, 60, was under preliminary investigation before Magistrate Mark Ngegba at the Pademba Road Court No. 1 in Freetown on a count charge of Manslaughter.

The prosecution alleged that on Wednesday 1st December 2021 at Block N-9, Grafton Police Barracks, Freetown, the accused unlawfully killed Dennis.

Healey International gets grant for health projects

Healey International Relief Foundation that works in Sierra Leone through Caritas Freetown has announced that its receipt of a United States Agency for International Development (USAID) grant through the American Schools and Hospitals Abroad (ASHA) programme, to support its work in Sierra Leone.

This was announced at a Press Conference held on the 18th November 2022 at the Caritas Freetown Office at Kingtom in Freetown.

Clerk of Parliament praised for gender awareness
