Sierra Leone’s basic education minister receives “Best Minister” award at world summit

Sierra Leone’s stride in the educational sector has been recognised at the 10th World Government Summit taking place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates with Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, Dr. David Moinina Sengeh bestowed with the Best Minister Award together with ten of his counterparts from other countries.

Sierra Leone jails four over Kush drug

Principal Magistrate, Mark Ngegba has sentenced 23 year old Alimamy Sesay of 13 B Kissy Brook PWD and 24 year old Kadiatu Kamara of No.8 Kissy Brook to 12 and 8 months in jail respectively for the possession of illegal drugs.

The accused persons, who earlier on Monday 13th February pleaded not guilty before the presiding magistrate after their offences had been read out to them, later changed their plea to guilty following discussions with their lawyer, Kemeh Kamara.

Sierra Leone parliament concerned over passport price

Following concerns raised by the Deputy Leader of Government Business in Parliament over the hike in passport price, the Speaker of Parliament Chernor Abass Bundu has instructed that the Minister of Internal Affairs David Panda-Noah appear before the house to explain why the high cost and the delay to transition from machine readable to E-Passport.

Sierra Leone signs agreement to improve learning

The government of Sierra Leone has in a bid to promote universal values and improve education signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the European Public Law Organization (EPLO).

The agreement was signed by the Minister of Development and Economic Planning Dr. Francis Kai Kai on the 11th of February 2023 at an organized ceremony in Brussels.

The MOU according to the parties is geared towards promoting education, research, training and institution building in every facet of public life.

Northwest Sierra Leone gets first Commissioner

Sierra Leone’s Parliament has unanimously approved the country’s first North West Commissioner; Albert Samba Sesay was approved on the 14th February 2023.

The Leader of the main opposition party in Parliament Chernor M. Bah called on commissioners to be referees and not players. He admitted that they were not satisfied with the consultations though they approved of the nominee.

He stated that during the interview, he noticed that Sesay’s Curriculum Vitae is rich and that he was up to the task.
