No EDSA top up for 3 days

The Management of the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) will cease the sales of electricity token (top up) from 6 PM today Friday to 6pm of Monday 20th February 2023.

According to a press release dated 14th February this year, EDSA’s management explained their intention of introducing a new system called Integrated Management System, which will replace the existing one, thus the process will lead to a halt in selling of token for three days.

Accused wants to refund money in land fraud case

The first accused in an ongoing land fraud case before the Principal Magistrate, Mark Ngegba in Freetown, has told the court that he wants to refund the one hundred and two million old Leones (Le 120,000,000) he obtained from the complainant in the said land deal.

Alusine Sesay, 47, said this during the court hearing on Wednesday 15th February 2023 in response to three options given to him and the second accused, Aloyious Kamara by the magistrate.

Man remanded for visa fraud

Principal Magistrate Mark Ngegba has remanded 47 years old Mohamed Sal in custody until the 25th of February. The accused is facing a 9 count charge ranging from conspiracy to obtaining money by false pretenses. The details are that Sal, who resides at 66 Sir Samuel Lewis Road Aberdeen, obtained money from different people on the promise that he would facilitate their travel overseas.

He appeared in court on Wednesday 15th February, 2023 to answer to the charges contained in 5 separate files.

SLCB to begin e-banking

The Managing Director of Sierra Leone Commercial Bank (SLCB) Yusifu Sillah  has acknowledged  the importance of the electronic banking system, saying that  the bank’s  key objective now is to move into cashless payment systems or artificial intelligence banking for their customers.

IPAM-USL, parliament in partnership

The Institute of Public Administration and Management, University of Sierra Leone (IPAM, USL), on Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at improving the professional development of the students through on –the- job work experience before they graduate.

Among other things, the Understanding is for the purpose of sending students to the House of Parliament “to work as interns which will help them build their capacities and learn firsthand how to translate theories they have learnt into practice”. 

Calls to equip journalists on PR system

President of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) Ahmed Sahid Nasralla has said in order for the election to be successful, the media should be empowered so that they can capably educate the public. He made this call on the 16th February 2023 at the launch of a project titled “Ensuring Locally-led Elections are credible and transparent (ELECT) in Sierra Leone”.
