Motherland City estate boss arrested

Sierra Leone’s Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is investigating alleged criminal activity of EAP Group of Companies and its President for receiving money from members of public for what they called ‘future home’ under the scheme ‘Motherland city’ in York Village.

ACC revealed this in their Press Release dated Wednesday 8th March 2023, informing members of the public to cease dealing with the company.

Man jailed for raping woman, 70

A man who was found guilty of raping a 70-year-old woman has been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment. Thaimu Kamara (45) will serve time at the Pademba Road Correctional Centre in Freetown.

 Kamara a fisherman was facing trial at the Sexual Offences Model Court, with Alhaji Momoh-Jah Stevens as Presiding Judge.

 He was accused of rape contrary to Section 6 of the Sexual Offences Act No. 12 of 2012 as repealed and replaced by the Sexual Offences Amendment Act No. 8 of 2019.

‘Kush’ exhibit tendered in court

Detective Constable Mohamed Yusif Jalloh attached to the Exhibit Office, Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters in Freetown, has tendered exhibits of a prohibited drug commonly called ‘Kush’ and other  drugs at the Pademba Road Magistrate court No.1 in an ongoing hearing involving a 37 year old accused, John Koroma of 33 Berwick Street in Freetown.

Minister decorates new Loko Tribal Head

The Minister of Local Government and Community Affairs (MLGCA), Tamba Lamina has recognized Chief Kandeh Sorie K. Kamara as the new Loko Tribal Headman for the Western Area.

The recognition was done at the conference room of the Ministry at Youyi Building on the 9th of March 2023.

Mohamed Bangura admits crossing checkpoint without authorization

A Member of Parliament, Mohamed Bangura, has admitted in his ongoing trial before the Principal Magistrate, Mark Ngegba of Pademba Road Court No.1 that he crossed a police checkpoint at Mathora Village in Tonkolili District without authorization because they did not give him the reason for mounting the said checkpoint and that it is an infringement on his freedom of movement.

21 March is judgement day for visa fraudster

Magistrate Mark Ngegba of the Pademba Road Court No.1 has promised to give judgement on a case of visa fraud involving an accused, Mohamed Alpha Bangura on the scheduled date of 21st March 2023.

Magistrate Ngegba said this during Monday’s hearing after informing the accused that the prosecution had closed its case.

Bah who has no legal representation opted to rely on the statement he made to the Police out of the three options given to him.   

UK Foreign Secretary visits motherland in southern Sierra Leone

 The United Kingdom’s Foreign Secretary James Cleverly was in Bo, Southern Sierra Leone on International Women’s Day where he launched a new strategy that is committed to supporting the development of more women and girls.

 The strategy which will among other things tackle gender inequality across the globe and put Women and girls at the heart of the UK’s international work was launched on social media at the Islamic Call School in Bo.
