Sierra Leoneans demand not more than 30% political appointments per region

The 2023 Citizens’ manifesto is demanding that the next administration should ensure not more than 30% of government appointees should be from one region.

Executive Director for the Institute of Governance Reform (IGR) Andrew Lavali during his presentation at the launch of the citizens manifesto consultative process on 15th March 2023 said: “The next government should evenly distribute appointments to regions, no region should have below 15% of the appoint and none should get above 30% of the appointments”.

DSTV reduces subscription cost for Sierra Leone subscribers

Transnational Ltd, the distributor in Sierra Leone for the South Africa-based satellite television provider Multi-Choice (better known as DSTV) has announced reductions in the cost of monthly subscriptions for the various categories of the products offered.  

DSTV Premium, Compact Plus, Compact, Family, and Access are the products that would see price reductions effective 1April 2023.

UN gives Sierra Leone’s rights commission Grade A

The United Nations (UN) through its autonomous body known as Global Alliance for National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) has again awarded the Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone with a Grade A Certificate.

The re-accreditation certificate was presented at GANHRI’s Annual General Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland on 15th March, 2023 and was received by the Chair and Vice Chairpersons of the Commission, Patricia Nansu Ndanema and Lawyer Victor Idrissa Lansana .

Sierra Leone gets 25 million Euros to boost basic education sector

The British High Commissioner to Sierra Leone Lisa Chesney has Announced an additional 25 million grant to Sierra Leone’s education sector under the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBBSE).

The grant which is meant for a new five-year programme is funded by the United Kingdom government to support Secondary Schools in the country.

The announcement was made on the 16th March 2023 at the New Brookfields Hotel in Freetown.

Sierra Leone sends trade delegation to China

The People’s Republic of China played host to a 15-man Sierra Leone trade Delegation to China on short training courses to be held in different cities in China.

Man remanded for housebreaking and larceny

Justice Bosco Alieu has remanded a 19-year-old man for allegedly breaking and entering the house of one Emmanuel Mohamed Kamara of Goderich and stealing Le 15,000,000 (Fifteen Million old Leones) and other properties.

The prosecution alleges that Jabati Gendemeh of Solo B Drive Goderich in the Western Rural District on 10th January 2021 also stole six pairs of sneakers valued at Le 2,100,000 (Two million one hundred thousand old Leones as well as other properties belonging to Alusine Edward Conteh in the same house.
