Sierra Leone shines at telecoms meeting in Bamako

Sierra Leone has been elected First Vice President of the West Africa Telecommunication Regulators Assembly at the organization’s 20th Annual General Meeting in Bamako. The Director General of the National Telecommunications Authority, NATCA described Sierra Leone’s success as “fantastic” and a “sub-regional recognition of Sierra Leone’s progressive approach to telecommunications regulation”.

Alleged fraudster arrested in Kenema

Police attached to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Kenema division are currently investigating Musa Jayah Kamara for alleged fraud and Musa Sannoh, Mohamed Allie Kallon in a matter of alleged robbery.

Kamara according to the police was allegedly collecting money from traders in Kenema as registration fee for the National Commission for Social Action’s (NACSA) emergency cash transfer.

Skye Bank murder case goes to Sierra Leone's High Court

Magistrate Mark Ngegba of the Pademba Road Court No.1 has dismissed a no case submission made by lawyers for former Skye Bank Manager, Ikubolaje Nicol and ordered that he stands trial for the alleged murder of Sinnah Kargbo, a former staff of the same bank.

CID boss visits Sumaila Town murder scene

Police of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) have visited the apparent murder scene at Sumalia Town of 22-year-old Namisa Fatmata Kamara. 

The university student was reported missing on 1 August 2022, and her slain body was found in a shallow grave on the 9 August at the compound of the Bobanie-Browns. 

Led by the head of the CID, RPG Robert, Saturday’s visit by investigators was the first since August. 

Two arrests were made for questioning of a man and a woman who live in the neighborhood. 

Seven women undergo breast cancer surgery in Kenema, eastern Sierra Leone

Seven women suffering from breast cancer have undergone surgery at the Kenema Government Hospital. District Medical Superintendent Dr. Ibrahim Mark Kapuwa led the team of medic that conducted the removal of tumours.

Dr. Kapuwa told Politico that a lot of women are suffering from breast cancer and that there is need for action by medical practitioners to help those that are battling with the disease.

Sierra Leone ruling party releases candidates’ election guidelines

The Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) in a document widely circulated on social media has highlighted its candidate selection process for the Local Council Elections under the District Block System citing the Public Election Act of 2022, the Local Government Act of 2022 and the 1991 Constitution of Sierra Leone.

The guidelines noted that for one to be considered eligible for elections, they must be a citizen of Sierra Leone and a member of the SLPP continuously for at least three years before application for the position.
