Parliament approves duty, tax waiver law

In an effort to streamline and provide a legal and regulatory framework to guide the award of duty and tax exemptions, the Parliament of Sierra Leone has enacted the Tax and Duty Exemption Act 2023.

The Act has consolidated the legal framework for regulating and administering exemptions in Sierra Leone.

The defending champions of the Sierra Leone Premier League, Bo Rangers, seem to be on the cusp of history.  

With 20 matches played, they have not lost a single match, and have won 14, scored 27 goals and conceded only eight, with 13 clean sheets. Their players have won 12 Man of The Match awards.

Fear of violence heightens ahead of Sierra Leone polls – says new report

A nation -wide poll published by Sierra Poll has indicated increased fear of violence in the upcoming elections slated for June 24th, 2023 by 36% percentage points following the recent killing of Assistant Superintendent of Police Matthew Gbanya in Makeni.

The fear in the minds of Sierra Leoneans increased from 20% in February of 2023 to 56% in April 2023 according to the report which was published on the 20th of April, 2023.

Only 47% of Sierra Leone Chancery Building in New York was completed – report says

The second report of the ongoing trial of the alleged corruption surrounding the renovation of the Sierra Leone UN Mission Chancery Building in New York has indicated that 47% of the work has been satisfactorily completed after 90% of the payment was made.

This is according to an assessment report prepared between 2019 and 2021 by Paul Bockarie, the head of a team of Engineers from the Ministry of Works and Public Asset after a visit to the chancery building in New York.

Sierra Leone central bank creates cashless payment system

The Bank of Sierra Leone (BSL) has created a cashless payment system called the National Payment Switch which will be launched on the 29th of April 2023. This, according to the Acting Bank Governor Ibrahim L. Stevens is in a bid to transform the country’s payment system in order to build a cashless economy.

He told a Press Conference in Freetown that the system creates a platform that facilitates interconnection and interoperability between payment channels of various players in the financial landscape.
