Sierra Leone dissolves parliament

The Fifth Parliament of the Second Republic has dissolved with President Bio giving his closing speech.

Bio on the 25th April 2023 at the dissolution ceremony in parliament highlighted his government’s successes since he assumed office in 2018.

Speaking on achievements made in youth development, he explained that over the past five years his government invested in young people by creating opportunities for training, entrepreneurship, and job creation.

Sierra Leone launches major Industrial Zone today

President Julius Maada Bio will officially launch the Koya Industrial Zone (SIZ - Koya) today - a joint venture between Sierra Leone and ARISE Integrated Industrial Platforms (ARISE IIP) at Mile 36, Koya Chiefdom, Port Loko district.

If comes days after parliament ratified the Framework agreement between the two for the implementation of a special economic zone in Sierra Leone.

Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr. Hinga Sandy said the agreements would enhance economic growth, and provide huge employment for the people of Sierra Leone.

UN commends Sierra Leone’s peace

Over 75% of victims of trafficking in West Africa are children

President of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission Dr. Omar Alieu Touray has said that over 75% of victims of human trafficking in West Africa are children.

Whilst presenting his speech at the Regional Conference of ECOWAS states on Ending Human Trafficking 2023 which was hosted in Sierra Leone at the International Conference Centre, Bintumani Hotel, Freetown, Touray explained that recent study has proven that children are trafficked for the purpose of forced labour.
