Low rainfall across Sierra Leone- SLMet

A forecast of the seasonal outlook for the 2023 rainy season by the Sierra Leone Meteorological Agency (SLMet) has predicted low rainfall across the country. 

Presenting the forecast to newsmen at a press briefing held on the 5th of May 2023, the Deputy Director of SLMet Gabriel Parker said the operations of the agency including the rainfall seasonal outlook are guided by the World Metrological Organization.

IGR report urges political parties to avoid vague promises

A Report which evaluates the progress made in President Julius Maada Bio’s 536 Campaign Promises, titled “BioMeter 2018-2023” says Political Parties should avoid vague promises for which output, outcome, or actions cannot be objectively defined in their campaign manifestoes.

The 28th April 2023 report by the Institute for Governance Reform (IGR) notes that it is difficult for institutional leaders to act on vague promises and for citizens to measure progress.

Sierra Leone to address drop in press freedom index - Dep. Minister

As Sierra Leone drops by 28 positions in the 2023-Press Freedom Index published by Reporters without Borders, the Deputy Minister of Information and Communications, Solomon Jamiru has promised the government’s commitment to look into what went wrong for such a fall.

Jamiru was responding to questions at the Government’s Weekly Press briefing held in Freetown on Thursday 4th May 2023.

WHO praises Sierra Leone's commitment to health sector

A representative from World Health Organization (WHO) Dr. Innocent B. Nuwagira has commended Sierra Leone for its government’s commitment to health sector reform.

He was speaking on the final day of the Universal Health Preparedness Review (UHPR) held in Sierra Leone from the 2nd to the 4th of May 2023.  

Sierra Leone president says payment switch will reduce corruption

President Julius Maada Bio has expressed optimism that the introduction of the National Payment Switch by the Bank of Sierra Leone will reduce the level of corruption in the country’s revenue collection.   

Speaking at the launch of the payment switch, on the 3rd May 2023, he noted it is no secret in the country and the sub-region that the lower the level of human interaction with money, the less likely for revenue collectors to be corrupt. 

Peace Commission engages Paramount Chiefs
