ILO promises 1,000 jobs for Sierra Leoneans

The Director of the International Labour Organization (ILO) Vanessa Phala has on behalf of the institution committed to creating one thousand decent jobs for Sierra Leonean citizens under the ILO’s ‘Opportunity Salone’ project.

The four-year project which is funded by the European Union (EU) will be implemented in Kenema, Bombali, Bo, and Port Loko districts.  Eight million euros is set aside for the implementation of the project according to the officials.

Man jailed for stealing at FBC

Justice Ansumana Ivan Sesay has sentenced one Edward Borsordau Smith to 12 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to stealing items from student hostels at the Fourah Bay College in two separate cases.

Smith was first sentenced to five years in the first case of housebreaking and stealing and seven years in a second case on a similar offence.

Low awareness and control hamper hypertension fight in Africa

Brazzaville – Fewer than a third of people living with hypertension in the African region are on treatment, and only about 12% have the life-threatening condition under control, an analysis by World Health Organization (WHO) shows.

Globally, around 21% of adults aged over 30 years have hypertension under control, and 42% are taking medication for the condition. Hypertension is a major risk factor for stroke and heart attack—the cardiovascular diseases responsible for most deaths due to chronic illnesses in the African region.
