Calls to use fallen Cotton Tree for arts

The historic and iconic Cotton Tree of Freetown on the night of Wednesday 24th May 2023, came crashing down in a heavy rainstorm, igniting calls  from authorities and the general public to use the logs retrieved from the fallen tree for art, so that its history would not fade out.

Five on remand for murder

Justice Monfred Sesay has remanded five people accused of two counts of conspiracy to commit murder and murder. Mohamed Johnson, Aiah Komba, Kalilu Fofanah, Victor Kellie, and Ishmiel Charles are accused of stabbing one Kai Osman Fengai to death in Koidu City, Kono District in the east of Sierra Leone.

IMC conducts hearings on cases

The Independent Media Commission (IMC) Complaints Committee has conducted Hearings on matters brought before the commission by people who feel aggrieved about publications and broadcasts made by newspapers and radio stations.

The hearing’s decision was made known to the public via a press release by the commission on the 24th of May 2023.

ILO launches “decent work” programme

With Health and Safety of Workers being one of the International Labour Organization’s (ILO) focus, the institution’s Country Director Vanessa Phala together with the Minister of Labour and Social Security (MLSS) Alpha Timbo and other partners have signed and launched the Decent Work Country Programme (DWCP) 2 for Sierra Leone.

The programme launched on the 25th of May 2023 is set to end in 2027 with an emphasy on creating jobs that recognize workers' health and safety.
