Climate Finance Unit validates Sierra Leone's carbon market policy

As part of government’s preparedness for a carbon market investment, the Climate Finance Unit under the Ministry of Finance has ended a one day validation of carbon market policy framework in the Eastern region.

During the one day validation process in Kenema on the 28th June, 2024, the head of the Unit, Sellu McCarthy said they are touring the regional headquarter towns in order to engage the relevant stakeholders that have bearing on forestry.

Deputy Speaker blames ministry staff over land dispute

The Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Ibrahim Tawa Conteh has highlighted increased in land disputes in the Western Area of Sierra Leone, saying that most of such cases are ignited by staff at the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Country Planning.

New digital payment platform launched

As part of efforts to ensure digital financing system, Metro Cable Sierra Leone Limited last Friday 28th of July 2024 introduced a new digital payment platform dubbed Vult.

The platform which is not a bank but operates through local and international banks using Master Card, according to officials, enables user’s access to digital platform for online transaction, money transfer, payment of bills among others. 

As UADF erects another Telecom Tower, rural connectivity reaches Yoyema, Moyamba District

 

Beaming faces, singing and dancing in the Village of Yoyema, Moyamba District heralded yet another milestone in the drive by Universal Access Development Fund (UADF) to bring telecommunication to rural areas and keep the people connected to other parts of the country, and the wider world.

 Saturday 29th June 2024, marked the grand commissioning of a Telecom Tower built by funds from UADF in Yoyema which is some two miles from the district headquarter town of Moyamba.

FBC expels, rusticates 13 students

One of the constituent colleges of the University of Sierra Leone (USL), Fourah Bay College (FBC) has expelled and rusticated 13 students from the institution for various crimes committed during their stay on campus.

A notice signed by the Deputy Registrar of FBC, Brima Bah on the 26th of June 2024 revealed the outcomes of the College Discipline Committee’s Investigations into various students’ non-academic disciplinary matters during the 2023/2024 academic year
