Amidst political tension and threats of violence, former President Ernest Bai Koroma has called on Sierra Leoneans to choose peace over violence, noting that the focus should be on creating an enabling environment for citizens to exercise their civil and Political rights peacefully.

Defence for Children International (DCI) Sierra Leone, a local Non-Governmental Organization (NGO)   has called for an increased public education programmes including outreach to schools and communities to raise awareness on positive use of digital services and the dangers of cyber-crime.

The organisation made the recommendation in a press release i to mark the commemoration of the Day of the African Child (DAC) on the 16^th June, this year.

The President of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission, Dr Omar Alieu Touray, has approved for the deployment of 95 Election Observers for the 24^th of June multi-tier elections in Sierra Leone.

Some will perform Long-Term observation of the process while it will be short term for others.

The planned deployment was made known to the public through a press release by the Commission dated 15^th June, 2023.

President Julius Maada Bio has on Friday 16^th of June this year launched a project aimed at upgrading the Kailahun-Koindu - Guinea-Liberia Border Road. The event was held on Friday, June 16, 2023.
Funded by the African Development Bank and the Government of Sierra Leone, the project is under the Mano River Union Road Development and Transport Facilitation Programme - Phase III.

The Minister of Lands, Housing and Country Planning,  Turad Senesie Ph.D has at the distribution of state lands to members of the Sierra Leone Commercial bike (Okada) riders Association and Union of Rickshaw (Kekeh) riders, who won  the state land raffle draw, promised that the next set of people to earn state lands are the Petty Traders.

Minister Senesie was speaking on Friday 16^th June at McCDonald in Western Rural District - the designated place for allocation of the plots of land to the raffle winners.

Claims: The European Union Election Observation Mission to Sierra Leone is distributing pens and other memorabilia with hidden cameras. The target are chiefs, police and ECSL staff.

Methodology

A social media post which has been circulated on Whatsapp so many times is claiming that EU Election Observers are sharing pens with hidden cameras.

The Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) and the Media Reform Coordinating Group have condemned an attack on BBC Correspondent, Umaru Fofana by supporters of the main opposition party, All People’s Congress (APC) immediately after a press conference organized by the party.

The SLAJ press release spoke of offensive remarks directed towards his mother, persistent subjection of further indecent language and gestures, and physical threats.
