50/50 concerned over cyber bullying of female politicians

The gender parity group, Fifty-Fifty Sierra Leone has in a press release expressed concern over the spate of cyber bullying targeted at female political leaders and heads of election observer missions. 

The Group through their release dated 30th June 2023 stated that “We implore the public to recognize that our diverse views and opinions of the still ongoing process can be expressed through constructive dialogue devoid of threats, bullying, and personalized attacks”.

Updated WAEC Act on the way

In order to improve the management of public examinations in Sierra Leone, the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) is set to update the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Act of 1984.

Information on the update of the old Act was made public after staff at the MBSSE went through a ‘‘detailed and comprehensive’’ review of the draft WAEC Bill on the 4th of June 2023.

Sierra Leone Bar urges electoral commission to improve on logistics planning

After observing the late start of voting in all 16 districts of the country, the Sierra Leone Bar Association (SLBA) has urged the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL) to improve on logistics planning to ensure early and effective distribution of election materials to designated polling stations to help reduce the late opening of polling stations.

The Association made its election observation findings public in a statement issued on the 2nd of June 2023.

3 remanded for "robbing" High Court Judge

Magistrate Mark Ngegba has remanded a 41-year-old John Bangura, 28-year-old Samuel Koroma, a 30-year-old Hassan Kamara being first, second and third accused persons respectively for allegedly stealing from Justice Alfred Tommy Ganda items with a total value of seventy-four thousand seven hundred New Leones, (NLe. 74,700).

Kissy Road fire leaves over 10 homeless

A fire incident on the night of Sunday 2nd June, 2023 at number 13 Hamilton Lane off Kissy Road in Freetown has left over ten people homeless.

The fire completely gutted the two-storey board house, reducing it to charred remains, after over two hours of fiery blaze.

One of the affected persons, Marie Wurie told Politico that she was woken from sleep by her sister who screamed that fire was sweeping through the house. She said she left her room without even thinking of what to take out.
