Sierra Leone national attacked in Tunis

Sierra Leonean Migrant Mohamed has said that he and his friends were attacked and beaten by some Tunisians.

Speaking in an interview with Aljazeera’s Simon Speakman Cordall, Mohamed said “The violence here is very tough. Tunisian boys, they came and hit the door, forcing their way in. They hit me and forced us out. If I have the opportunity, I will go to Europe” he said.

NDI endorses NEW’s PRVT outcome

Calls to promote women in Sierra Leone

Women in the Media Sierra Leone (WIMSAL) have called on journalists and other stakeholders to make a conscious effort to promote women's growth in all spheres of life.

The institution made this call during an engagement on women’s participation in elections and media representation, in Freetown last week.

 ‘Gender biases in media coverage/ enhancing women’s participation’ was the theme of the panel discussion.

Man jailed 10 years for sex offence

Justice Komba Kamanda of the High Court in Freetown has sentenced one Moses Adu to 10 years imprisonment after finding him guilty of sexually penetrating a girl.

Delivering his judgment on Thursday 6th July 2023, the judge said the victim testified that she was alone at home when the accused, who was their neighbor and security personnel, knocked on the door, pushed and entered. The accused then grabbed her, tore her pants and sexually assaulted her and that she was a virgin at the time.

Man freed from sexual penetration case

Freetown High Court Number 7 presided over by Justice Komba Kamanda has set free a man named Zachariah Jalloh of sexual penetration charges of a girl under age of consent.

In his ruling on Thursday 6th July 2023, the judge said in a criminal matter the burden is on the prosecution to prove the evidence beyond reasonable doubt.

Sierra Leone FA to downsize Premier League teams to 12

In order to run a very competitive league in the country, the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) intends to introduce a new football ecosystem that will see the scaling down of the number of male premier league teams from the present eighteen to twelve by the 2026/2027 league season.

This pronouncement was made by the President of SLFA, Thomas Daddy Brima during the SLFA Ordinary Congress that started on the 4th and ended 6th July, 2023 at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Freetown.

NEW releases methodology used in polls

National Elections Watch (NEW) has released its Process and Results Verification for Transparency (PRVT) methodology following criticisms of the methodology they used to arrive at the projection made about the June Presidential Election, which stated that no candidate met the constitutional threshold to become president and that there should be a run-off.
