Following the dominance of the yet-to-be-sworn-in Sixth Parliament by the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) and the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) both parties will still have a lion’s share of the council seats across the country.

This became evident after Chief Electoral Commissioner Mohamed Konneh announced on Tuesday 11th July the final results of the 24th June local council election.

African pilgrims get farewell dinner

The Board of Directors of the Company of Mutawifs for African non-Arab Countries in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia over the weekend organised a send-off dinner to mark the end of 1444/2023 Hajj for pilgrims from Subsaharan African countries.
The event, which was held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, was also attended by Ambassadors and Permanent Representatives of non-Arab African countries in Saudi Arabia whose pilgrims participated in this year's Hajj.

ACC commemorates Anti-Corruption Day

Anti-Corruption Commission Sierra Leone and Transparency International Sierra Leone Chapter yesterday 11th July jointly commemorated the  African Anti-Corruption Day on the theme '‘Fighting Corruption NOW for the Africa We Want.’'

The two institutions in a joint press statement explained that the day was set aside to give prominence to the fight against corruption by commemorating the adoption of the AUCPCC as the tool for fighting corruption in Africa.

10 remanded for public order offences

Ten accused persons appeared before Magistrate Mark Ngegba at Pademba Road Court No.1 in Freetown and were remanded in custody for allegedly committing public order offences ranging from holding placards without approval, and throwing missiles in public.

The alleged offences happened on June 13th 2023 at two separate locations at Foamex - Calaba Town and Portee Junction in Eastern Freetown.

Four remanded for robbery with aggravation

Magistrate Mark Ngegba of court No. 1, Pademba Road has dismissed a bail application made on behalf of four accused persons - Christopher John alias Arkor, Osman Tarawallie alias 5-4, Mohamed Bai Kamara alias Alkaline and Ibrahim Koroma commonly called Dino who are before the court for alleged robbery with aggravation, assault and wounding with intent.

He said the accused would remain in custody because the prosecution is alleging that they committed a felony that could attract a lengthy prison term if they were convicted.
