Liberia’s Vice President envies Sierra Leone’s new cabinet

Dr. Jewel Howard Taylor, Vice President of Liberia, has bemoaned the fact that only “a mere 17%” of candidates in her country’s election in October will be women. 

Addressing the opening session of the usual delocalized meeting of the ECOWAS parliament in Monrovia on the theme "Enhancing Political inclusivity in the participatory Governance process: A mechanism for promoting peace and security’’ Taylor said the playing field for female participation in the October 2023 election in Liberia was not level.

Opposition MP wants price control in Sierra Leone

The only Member of Parliament for the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) Mohamed Bangura (defying his party’s boycott order) has urged the new Minster of Trade and Industry, Alpha Sesay to address the hike in prices of goods in the market.

Speaking during debates regarding the first group of ministerial nominees, the MP took the opportunity to address the issue of escalating cost of commodities saying “the people of this country are facing poverty”.

State House Press Secretary visits Politico

The newly- appointed Press Secretary  in the Office of the President, Solomon Jamiru, has  visited Politico newspaper  as part of his meeting –the- media initiative, following his recent appointment.

Accompanied by State House Communications Manager Tanu Jalloh, he told the Politico staff on Thursday 27th July 2023 that his office exists because of the media and that the communications unit thought it necessary to visit media houses to demonstrate that they and journalists are in the business together.

Herbalist in court for the murder of university lecturer

Ibrahim Kalokoh a herbalist, ordinarily resident at Shebora Town, Newton in the general area of Waterloo in rural Freetown appeared again before  Magistrate Mark Ngegba on Wednesday 26th July charged with the murder of FBC Lecturer Kabba Santigie Bangura whose corpse was discovered in the house of the herbalist.

Sole opposition MP in Sierra Leone’s parliament wants Speaker to end country’s political stalemate

Main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) Member of Parliament from Karene District Mohamed Bangura has called on the Speaker of Parliament Dr. Chernor Abass Bundu to facilitate reconciliation between the government and his party in a bid to promote peace to ensure that the fifty-three opposition MPs elect take their seats.

Bangura made this call on the 26th July 2023 during a debate on the approval of the first group of ministerial nominees.
