Radio Democracy Board allays crisis fears of a crisis

After the spike in resignations, the Board of the Society for Radio Democracy 98.1 FM has allayed the fears of the public and assured everyone that there is no crisis at the broadcaster.

The Board made this clarification in a press statement dated 5th August, 2023 after the resignations of some senior staff of the institution made public.

Sierra Leone’s security Sector, CSOs discuss peace-building

The Security Sector of Sierra Leone and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) on 1st August 2023 converged in Freetown to dialogue in a bid to proffer enduring solutions to the associated problems that they conceived are an affront to the peace and stability of the country.

The Dialogue which was organised by CSO Fambul Tok in collaboration with the Security Sector attracted Security Chiefs from the Office of National Security (ONS), the Police, and Military and representatives of various CSOs in Sierra Leone.

65 female police officers pass AU/UN test

Kush, the psychoactive substance wreaking havoc in Sierra Leone

There is an alarming increase in the spate of the use in Sierra Leone of the psychoactive substance known as Kush. The authorities and the United Nations have expressed concern especially because those seeking help are mostly young people who are in or dropped out of secondary school, with 73% of them living in urban or peri-urban areas. Many face huge mental health issues or are dying.

Fourah Bay College lecturer beats neighbour with a shovel

A young woman at the centre of an altercation with a lecturer at Fourah Bay College (FBC), has narrated how the whole problem started that led to an assault on her that left her bleeding.

21-year-old Nasu Ensah told Politico that a video on social media showing her being beaten with a shovel  by lecturer Salmata Abiodun Ibrahim,Ph.D, at their Kortright residence on the FBC campus happened in the evening hours of Friday 28th July 2023.

ECOWAS praises Sierra Leone’s 30% female quota

The ECOWAS Parliament at the just concluded Delocalized Joint Committee meeting held in Monrovia, Liberia from the 25th to 29th of July 2023 commended Sierra Leone and other countries for achieving the 30% quota for women in Parliament and cabinet positions.

It also commended the country for its participatory governance in the sub-region following the just concluded elections.
