The Supreme Court of Sierra Leone has ruled in favour of Chief Electoral Commissioner, Mohamed Konneh indicating that his appointment was lawful and constitutional and did not contravene any constitutional provisions.

Acting Chief Justice, Nicholas C. Browne-Marke on the 17^th July, 2024, stated that “the Constitution must be read as a whole, and not in bits, cherry-picking provisions which, on their own, may appear to support one view or the other. To do so, would result in absurdity.”

Members of Parliament were in a reminiscing mode during their debate on aviation agreements brought to the House, as they wished for the then aviation facilities such as internal flights and cheap international tickets amongst other to be revived.

The Acting Leader of the Opposition called on the government to reconsider and undertake the Mammah Airport Project in a bid to improve the aviation sector.

 State Prosecutor, Oladipo Robin-Mason, has told jurors in the ongoing treason trial that the second accused confessed to police investigators that he was actively involved in the failed coup plot.

 In his closing address at the high court in Freetown on Friday 19^th July 2024, he  reminded the 12 person jury that Mohamed Jalloh admitted in his voluntary caution statement that the plan was due to be executed in March 2023  and that the first accused Koita Makalo  persuaded him to “join the mission.”

Members of Parliament have appealed to the newly approved Commissioners at the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) to help improve the standard of education in the country, saying standards have dropped and blamed every Sierra Leonean for the fall.

They made this call on the 16^th July 2024 whilst debating on presidential nominees. They highlighted certain factors such as selling of grades and providing leakages for students and pupils amongst other things as being the reason for the drop in standards.

Lawyers in neighbouring Guinea are on a two-week strike action that began on Tuesday 16^th July, in protest over what they say are the arbitrary arrests of people in the country by the security forces.

There are no clear indications as to the number of arrests in question but  the strike comes at a time of the arrest and detention of Civil Society leaders Oumar Sylla and Mamadou Billo Bah, allegedly by heavily armed hooded men in military fatigues and civilian clothes.

As part of controlling and regulating Air quality and Pollution in the country, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) with funds from UNDP held its final validation of air quality and pollution regulations in Kenema, Eastern region.

At the end of the validation process on the 13th July, 2024, Bobson Abdulai on behalf of the Nongowa Chiefdom Chieftaincy told the gathering about the threat of pollution to human beings, and especially its health implications to people living in urban settlements.
