The Executive Director of the Sierra Leone Association of Persons with Albinism, Mohamed Osman Kamara, has expressed concern at what he said are the prejudices persons with albinism face in state -owned institutions in the country and want their protection under law.

Speaking in an interview on Thursday 18^th of August 2023, Kamara said that they are facing discrimination in their everyday life.

As a way to help reduce the high fatality rate of Lassa fever cases in Kenema, the District Health Management Team (DHMT) with support from AFENET has engaged Paramount Chiefs and other stakeholders to help combat the disease.

 The business community in Pujehun town is outraged over the growing rate of criminality in the township and the effect that is having on their businesses. According to the statistics provided by the crime officer at the Pujehun police station, the community has experienced a sharp increase in crime in recent months compared to the previous year with reports of burglary and violent robbery increasing.

The newly appointed Chief Minister, Dr. David Moinina Sengeh, has said that each and every ministry now has a responsibility to raise at least one million dollars per year in order to increase budget mobilization.

The Chief Minister said this decision was deliberated in a cabinet meeting that lasted for about an hour, after prior discussions with the secretary to the president and the cabinet secretary, by extension consulting the President and Vice President respectively on the said issue.

The District Lodge of Sierra Leone and the Gambia has donated a sum of 70,000 (seventy thousand) new Leones to Cancer UK-Salone and King George the Sixth Memorial Home for the aged.

The gesture was done during a Press Conference held at the Georgearcland Masonic Temple, Freetown on the 16^th of August 2023. 50,000 (fifty thousand) new Leones of that sum will go to Cancer UK-Salone to fight prostate cancer in the country, whilst the 20,000 (twenty thousand) new Leone will support the running of the King Georges Home.
