Sierra Leone bars night anchoring for boats

In order to tackle the security implications posed by boats at night, the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has banned all boats in the country from using, berthing, or anchoring at any wharf in Sierra Leone after 7 p.m.

The ban according to a press statement from the police dated 29th August will be in full force effective Friday 1st September, 2023.

New Immigration boss promises reform

Sierra Leone’s newly appointed Chief Immigration Officer Alusine Kanneh has promised to reform the institution.

In a brief interview with the newly appointed Officer, he explained that an assessment of the institution will be conducted and that it will be followed by legislative and other reforms that will make the institution meet the public’s expectations.

Sister’s killer committed to high court

The matter of a man accused of killing his sister has been committed to High Court.  58-year-old  Sulaiman Conteh admitted  killing  his younger sister, Isha Said Hughes on 14th July this year.

In his ruling at the Ross Road court No. 1 on Friday 25th August 2023; Magistrate Sahr Kekura noted that the prosecution led in five witnesses.

US ambassador breached Vienna Convention - APPA

All Political Parties Association (APPA) has in a press statement accused outgoing United States Ambassador David Reimer of breaching the Vienna Convention.

The statement dated 24th August 2023 says “APPA-SL takes note of the statement made by the outgoing US Ambassador as a total breached of the Vienna convention and wish to state that such statement undermined the respect of diplomatic principles covering each and every diplomat in a nation state”.

In Sierra Leone “Stunted growth in children drops by 26%” - Chief Nutritionist

The Chief Nutritionist who is also Director of Food and Nutrition at the Ministry of Health and Sanitation, Aminata Shamit Koroma says there’s been a 26% decrease in the number of children with stunted growth in the country since 2021.

Koroma made the disclosure in an interview with Politico on the 23rd of August 2023. 

On the impaired growth and development of children manifested by low height in contrast to age, she stated that between 2010- 2021, the number was 33.1%.

Woman pours acid on partner’s face

A pregnant woman, Fatima Mansaray of Koko Street in Kabala was said to have poured liquid suspected to be acid on the face of her partner, Adam Saccoh.

The incident happened in the early hours of Friday 25th August 2023 in Kabala.

According to Detective Police Constable (D/P.C) Christiana Fambulleh of the Family Support Unit (FSU) Kabala Division who is leading the investigation, the couple got into an argument after the man returned home from an unexplained destination late into the night.
