SCADeP boosts farmers with onion seeds and fertilizer

In order to ease the crisis surrounding onion in the country, the Smallholder Commercialization and Agribusiness Development Project (SCADeP) has issued agricultural products like onion seeds and fertilizers to over 40 farmers in Makeni.

The Assistant Director of Crop Division at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (MAFS), Fatmata Margai, in a radio interview noted that the support is in line with the government’s efforts to address onion shortage and increase its production in the country.

Sierra Leone identifies 377 illegal gun manufactures

The Sierra Leone Commission on Arms and Ammunition (SLeCAA) has in a press release dated 1st September this year confirmed that there are 377unlicensed local gun manufacturers and repairers as per survey conducted in 2020.

Of the total unlicensed gun manufacturers and repairers, 138 are local gun producers and 239 repairers, and according to the release, these illegal manufacturers of shotguns are a threat to the security of the country by contributing to the illegal ‘’proliferation’’ of small arms and ammunition.

FGM shrine demolished to make way for a school

Matimba is the first village in Sierra Leone to demolish their ‘Yanka’ or society bush where women earmarked for training into performing the practice of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and other traditional practices, according to the Executive Director of Amazonian Initiative Movement Rugiatu Neneh Turay.

Turay made this statement at a ceremony held to commission a formal education school at Matimba village which is located in Koya Chiefdom, Port Loko District.

Judiciary to tackle 189 ‘no-trace’ cases in Sierra Leone

The Head of Media and Communications at Judiciary of Sierra Leone, Elkass Sannoh has said that the 189 no-trace cases found during the Judicial Week will be struck-off.

In an interview with Politico, Sannoh said the cases will be removed from the judicial process, as long as nobody is making any follow-up interest.

Man gets 20 years in jail for killing best friend over a woman

A 34-year old convict, Gibrilla Sesay of New site Campbell town Waterloo, has been sentenced to 20 years  imprisonment after pleading guilty to killing his childhood best friend, David Kamara over a woman.

Before his guilty plea and sentencing at High Court No.1 in Freetown On Tuesday 5th  September 2023,  State Prosecutor, Solomon Christian Kekurah had applied for amendment of the indictment from murder to manslaughter.

Bio calls for Climate Change support

Man held over penetration of 3-year-old
