Streetlights and clock tower for Pujehun town

The newly elected Council chairman has promised to build a clock tower at Gobaru Junction on the approach to Pujehun town and provide street lights for the township itself and surrounding communities.

 Addressing the inaugural meeting of the recently-elected council and the people of the district on Thursday, 14th September 2023, at Bumpeh Community Barray, Foday K Rogers said he intends to keep his pre-election promise of supporting the development of football in the southern district.

Dismissed Police officer sent to high court over Kush

The case of a dismissed Police Officer William Sawyer accused of selling the drug ‘Kush’ has been committed to the High Court after  Magistrate Mark Ngeba presiding over the matter at Court No.1 in Freetown said  there was sufficient evidence for the accused’s trial.

Magistrate Ngegba arrived at this conclusion on Friday 15th September 2023, after a Police Detective Sub-Inspector A. Kamara, of Ross Road Police Station, testified in court at the Preliminary Investigation (PI).

More US$ 13 million for energy sector

The Ministry of Energy has in a press statement announced World Bank Grant of 13 Million United States dollars for the Electricity and Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA).

The grant according to the statement is an Additional Fund to the parent project which was approved in January 2021 and came into effect in March of the same year.

200 households receive relief supports

200 Household victims of floods at Kroobay, Dundas Street- PWD  in central Freetown and Bololo west of the capital  have been supported with food and other items funded by the charity German Doctors for Developing Countries.

The recipients of the relief items were victims of flooding incidents that took place in July and August this year.

Catholic Charity Caritas Freetown chapter carried out the distribution of the supplies at Kingtom in Freetown.

20 years for gang rapists in Sierra Leone

An appeal court judge, Alhaji Mohamed Momoh-Jah Stevens, has sentenced two convicts, Saidu Sesay, and Alfred Bangura - first and second accused respectively, to twenty years in prison each for raping their female neighbour.

The convicts were sentenced to five years each for conspiracy and 15 years for gang-raping the victim.

The judgment was held at the Sexual Penetration court in Freetown on Friday 15th September 2023.

No guidelines for cybercrime – Police witness

Cybercrime Investigator Detective Inspector, Mohamed Jusu attached to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters has said in court that he was not aware of any guidelines to be followed when investigating cybercrime in the country.

The Police witness said this during cross-examination by Lawyer Elvis T. Enoh at the Pademba Road Magistrate Court in Freetown on Friday 15th September 2023.

Sumaila Town killing goes to court

A 21-year-old accused, Salamatu Conteh has appeared at Freetown Magistrate Court No.1 over the alleged killing of Musa Dumbuya at 18A Sumaila town in Freetown.

The fair in complexion accused dressed in a blue gown, head wrapped in a black hijab, appeared before Magistrate Mark Ngegba on Thursday 14th September 2023.

The one count of murder was read out to the accused, who stood in the dock, her eyes focused on the Court Registrar.
