Cholera! An Alarming Epidemic: 72 Killed, 4,249 cases

The manager for national disease surveillance and response, Dr Foday Dadae has put at 4,249 the nationwide number of recorded cases of cholera since the latest outbreak started in January with 72 deaths. He said 685 of that figure was recorded in the Western Area where 14 people, including two children, had been confirmed dead in the last five weeks. Forty cases are being reported daily at Mabayla alone, in the east of Freetown.

Member of Parliament for Constituency 91 in Soro-Gbeima chiefdom, Pujehun district, says his people are unhappy with the operations of a mining company called Strategic Business Development which is undertaking exploration work in the Soro-Gbeima chiefdom.

SLFA in Limbo…as Nahim Khadi’s mandate expires

A constitutional crisis is looming in the Sierra Leone Football Association as the mandate of the current executive expires on Thursday without the election of a new one.

A senior SLFA source told Politico Sports that the Executive Committee of the organisation would meet on Thursday to discuss the possibility of extending their mandate in line with recent proposals put forward by the FA’s electoral committee to hold the elective congress on August 23.

Addressing stakeholders from across the citizenry, he said that there was often a disconnect between the needs of the people and the Manifesto of presidential candidates.
