Private sector enhances corruption - ACC officer

The Deputy Director, the Prevention Department of the Anti-Corruption Commission, (ACC) Samuel Marrah accused the private sector of being one of the facilitators of graft.

 Marah made this claim in an interview with Politico, in which he recalled an engagement the commission had with stakeholders from the private sector that took place in Freetown.

Police to enforce road safety laws in Sierra Leone

As a way to ensure road safety compliance, the Sierra Leone Police (SLP), has teamed up  with the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA),  putting in place a number of measures and regulations in pursuit of restoring  ‘’sanity’’ on roads.

The SLP made this statement in a press release dated 17th August 20223. The press release noted that vehicle and garage owners must not ‘’abandon’’ or ‘’park’’ along roads, adding they must remove all those vehicles, tricycles, and motorcycles currently abandoned on those roads.

22 remanded for drugs, public order offenses

As the fight against ‘Kush,’ Cannabis Sativa, Tramadol, and other narcotics intensifies across the country, 22 suspects comprising 3 females and 19 males have been remanded at the Kissi Town/Banga Farm Correctional Centre in Waterloo on several Public Order Act and Drug-Related Offenses.

The suspects were arrested in raids in and around Waterloo and on Wednesday 23rd August made their first appearance at the Magistrate Court, King Yard in Waterloo.

Mercy Ship docks in Sierra Leone to perform 2,350 free surgeries and train hundreds of health workers

The British medical charity, Mercy Ship has arrived in Sierra Leone to perform more than 2,350 safe and free surgeries onboard Global Mercy, the world’s largest charity hospital ship.

The patients were selected from 5,000 people who registered following a screening process.

Yesterday a delegation from the Mercy Chip charity led by the Minister of Health and Sanitation, Dr. Austin Demby, paid a courtesy visit on President Julius Maada Bio at State House.

63% of Sierra Leone’s mental cases are Kush-related

Senior Specialist at the Kissy Psychiatric Hospital, Dr. Abdul Jalloh says 63% of cases recorded at the facility are related to Kush addiction.

He made this statement at the weekly Ministry of Information and Civic Education press conference held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation at Tower Hill on the 22nd of August 2023.

Woman in court for selling Kush

 A 35-year-old accused, Hawa Moinina of 9 Race Course Road in Freetown has appeared before a Freetown Magistrate Court for illegal possession of 27 wraps of a harmful drug known as Kush.

The accused appeared before Magistrate Sahr Kekura at Ross Road Court No.1 on Monday 21st August 2023.
