In an effort to foster national cohesion and development after Sierra Leone’s General Elections, the Executive Director of the Society for Democratic Initiative (SDI) has emphasized the need for media institutions and the Civil Society Organisations to have a nationalistic mindset in the discharge of their duties.

Sierra Leone to review Electricity Act

As part of plans to curb electricity theft in Sierra Leone, the Minister of Energy, Alhaji Kanja Sesay Ph.D. has disclosed plans for a review of the Act that would ensure ‘aggressive’ penalties are categorized based on electricity crimes committed.

Sesay made this statement to journalists in a weekly press conference held by the Ministry of Information and Civic Education at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 3rd October this year.

Man arrested with shotgun in Bo

The Regional Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Sierra Leone Police in Bo is investigating one Pessima James for illegal possession of shotguns and Cartridges.

According to the Southern Region Police Public Relations officer, Constable Alhaji Osman Mansaray, personnel at the Falla Checkpoint arrested James with unlawful possessions while onboard a commercial vehicle on the 3rd of October 2023.  

ACC recovers Le 45 Billion in five years

The Public Relations Officer of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Sylvanus Blake says the Commission has recovered over 45 Billion Old Leones over the past five years from graft-related cases.

Speaking to Politico in an interview on the 5th of October this year at the ACC Integrity Building, Blake said the money includes the 2.36 Billion Old Leones recently recovered from Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) based on the 2021 Audit Reports.

45-year jail term for murderer in Kono

Justice Monfred Sesay has sentenced one Mohamed Johnson to forty-five years in jail after jurors found him guilty on two counts, conspiracy and murder. Johnson, 31, was sentenced to five years on the first of conspiracy and 45 five years on count two, murder. Both sentences will run concurrently.

University of Sierra Leone starts eLearning dialogue

The University of Sierra Leone (USL) has in collaboration with the Commonwealth of Learning commenced a two-day stakeholders’ engagement for the development and validation of Open and Distance Learning (ODL) policy at the university.

The discourse will be looking at the policy formulation and, also putting the courses together, that will lead to open and distance learning.

The programme was held at Fourah Bay College Multi-Purpose Building on Thursday 5th October, 2023.
