Lawyers vote new president

Members of the Sierra Leone Bar Association have today voted in a new executive, after the outgoing president Blyden Jenkins-Johnston stepped down. Elvis Kargbo won with 91 votes, with Glenna Thompson coming a close second with 80. Ibrahim Sorie Jr came third with 41. Easmon Ngakui and James Monodu Fornah-Sesay went unopposed as Vice President and Secretary-General respectively. So did the Public Relations Officer, Julian Cole. They are elected for one year. Kenema police arrest murder suspect

Yesterday, 4 July, we ran a story about the death of a man in Kenema, Mohamed Alieu who had been bitten by his wife and died allegedly of his injuries.

Well now police have arrested the alleged killer, Jattu Mohamed of IDA Section in Kenema and say she will soon be charged to court.

Police Constable Brima Jusu Musa of the Community Relations Department told Politico that the suspect was arrested early this week by a police officer attached to the disused Kenema Airfield.

23% voter turnout in Makeni bye-election

The Bombali District Electoral Officer of the National Electoral Commission says voter turnout in Saturday’s parliamentary bye-election in constitutncy 29 in Makeni, was 22.9%. Abubakar Javombo said that in absolute figures 6,727 people voted, out of a total of 29,323 registered voters.

Of those there were 368 void votes making up 5.8%.

The APC candidate Sallieu O Sesay defeated his challenger from the UDM party, Ibrahim Nelson Kamara.

Police officer faces dismissal in Kenema

The Kenema Police Tribunal has recommended the dismissal of Constable Desmond Lewis currently standing trial in the Kenema Magistrate court on human-trafficking allegations.

Desmond and a nurse, Christiana Alpha are expected to make their first appearance in the High Court Kenema where the matter had been committed by the resident Magistrate Momoh Jah Steven.
