“I have come home” – Kandeh Yumkella tells SLPP

Former Presidential Candidate of the National Grand Coalition (NGC) Party, Kandeh Kolleh Yumkell (PHD) has told crowds of supporters of the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party during his formal declaration in rejoining the party that he has come home.

The event took place at the SLPP headquarters in Freetown on Saturday 14 October 2023.

RSLAF graduates 33 Special Forces

Thirty-three (33) Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) personnel who successfully completed training for inclusion into the Forces Reconnaissance Unit (FRU) have graduated with a special passing out ceremony at the 15 Infantry Battalion Barracks in Lungi on Friday 13th October, 2023.

47 personnel of RSLAF were initially selected for the training into the elite FRU, but due to the rigorous and robust training regime, only 33 made it through.

Sierra Leone Parliament blasts national police over killer synthetic Kush drug

Members of Parliament have expressed strong dissatisfaction at the Sierra Leone Police, accusing the force of knowing the importers of the deadly psychoactive substance known as Kush and even stated that some of the officers consume the drug.

Whilst debating on the 12th October 2023 on a Presidential Nominee related to the health sector, Deputy Whip 2 Ibrahim Conteh said that the police know those that are bringing the substance into the country.

Calls for budget line for mental health in Sierra Leone

The President of the Children’s Forum Network, Amadu Barrie has during the 2023 girls-health summit called on the government to allocate a specific budget line to mental health in the country.

Barrie told the Summit organized by West Africa Women and Girls Empowerment Sierra Leone (WAWGE-SL) at the Freetown City Hall last week that the specific budget line is of urgency considering the increase in the intake of the harmful drug, Kush among youths.

Scientist warns of climate change’s looming catastrophe

The rapid deforestation of hills and the mad rush in replacing the forest with big houses on those slopes, have the high probability for Freetown to experience the collapse of slopes, according to Professor Alhaji Umar N’jai.

The Scientist gave this warning on the 10th October 2023 in a presentation at a climate change conference organized by Green Scenery Sierra Leone.

“We are deforesting our hills at one of the greatest rates in the sub region’’, he said.
