
Six killed in Kailahun mine

Six people are reported to have died in a dangerous illicit mining being done in Njama and Suluma villages in the Penguya Chiefdom, Kailahun District, eastern Sierra Leone.
Police superintendent for Area III Kenema Mines Division, Samuel Foday Lahai, told Politico that a huge soil collapsed as a result of the underground mining and fell on and killed the miners on separate occasions between July and August.

Sierra Leone Minister charged with rape

Deputy Minister of Education, Mahmoud Tarawallie, sacked last week, made his first appearance in court yesterday charged with four counts of rape, wounding with intent wounding and assault.
He was refused bail and remanded at the Pademba Road Maximum Prisons until Thursday.
He stood before Magistrate Tonnia Barnette at Court Number 2.

More evidence in NRA, Ecobank case today

More evidence is expected in court today in the matter involving staff of the National Revenue Authority, Ecobank and Sierra Leone National Shipping Company who appeared in court again yesterday.
The 17 accused persons have been consistently denied bail since their trial started in June.
Yesterday three witnesses from various institutions testified against the 10th accused, Abdul Mutalib Kamara before Justice M.A Paul. He is one of a batch of ten standing trial this week.

Football violence rocks Fourah Bay

Police at Ross Road Division have arrested 18 people in connection with the deaths on Saturday of two football fans. Crime Officer, Ade Caulker told Politico that the suspects had been charged to court for “malicious conducts”.
