UN rep says women’s rights still an issue in Sierra Leone

The strategic planning committee of UN Women in Sierra Leone has identified women’s rights issues as major challenges confronting the attainment of the Millennium Development Goals and the government’s agenda for prosperity.

Acting head of the group, Melrose Kargbo, told a national consultative meeting that such rights issues were serious challenges to gender mainstreaming in particular and the need to ensure sustainable and inclusive development in general.

Performance contract for Sierra Leone civil servants

The government Human Resource Management Office, HRMO is reviewing the performance contract between the president and his ministers by “cascading it to affect permanent secretaries and others in the civil service”.

Acting Director General, Ansu Samuel Tucker, told the opening of a workshop at the Civil Service Training College in Freetown yesterday that the training for civil servants was part of the grand plan to ensure an effective service delivery.

ECOWAS boosts health, education

Director of the ECOWAS Youth Centre and Development in the Burkinabe capital of Ouagadougou says the regional economic bloc is sending volunteers to help in Sierra Leone’s health and education sectors.

Francis Chuks was speaking at the opening of induction training at the Hill Valley Hotel in Freetown. He said the country identified health and education as its main priorities.
