Bio promises to stabilise econmy

President Julius Maada Bio has promised to improve the economy though he acknowledged that times are hard.

Bio made this statement at a town hall engagement with citizens from all regions across the country on 23rd July, 2024, at the Bintumani Conference hall in Freetown, where he was responding to numerous questions citizens had asked through online . The event was organised by the Ministry of Information and Civic Education.

Bankers recall resilience and success of BSL at 60

At the Mezzanine hall within the Bank of Sierra Leone, in Freetown, serving and past members of staff of the institution, executives of other commercial banks and other invited personalities converged last week to heap praises on the country’s central bank for its resilience and successes as it starts commemoration of 60 years of service.

The historic emergence of BSL had its roots back in March 1963 and by then serving as the centre for the issuing of bank notes for all former british colonies in West Africa.

Bio vows to demolish houses within the greenbelt

President Julius Maada Bio has said he would demolish structures that he said have encroached on the greenbelt areas surrounding Guma Valley dam-the main source of water supply for residents of Freetown and parts of the rural district.

Bio made this statement at a Town Hall meeting organised by the Ministry of Information and Civic Education on 23rd July 2024 at the Bintumani Conference hall in Freetown, where he responded to numerous online questions sent to him.

Three deny being a part of coup attempt

Sergeant Mohamed Kamara has said at the ongoing court martial that he was never part of the November 26, 2023 assailants. Testifying in his own defence on Wednesday July 24, 2024 Sergeant Kamara said he was sleeping in his quarter at Wilberforce Barracks when he heard a blast at about 3:00 am and then heard a strange voice saying the enemies were about to surround the barracks.

SLRSA to refund money for aborted travel

Sierra Leone destroys over $ 96 million illicit drugs

The Transnational Organised Crime Unit (TOCU), in a joint exercise with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the Sierra Leone Police, Pharmacy Board, conducted the destruction of narcotics and contraband drugs worth 96 million US dollars. 

The exercise took place at the TOCU headquarters in Freetown on 19th July 2024, which saw the burning of drugs like Captagon, other narcotic and pharmaceutical drugs.
