2,000 WASSCE results withheld

Assistant Registrar, Administration , at the West Africa Examinations Council Sierra Leone office, says they withheld 2,000 results pending investigation for suspected examination malpractices.

Speaking to Politico, Abdul Rahman Newland Newland insisted that WAEC had not cancelled the results and might release at least some of them later.

SN Brussels “agent” sent to prison for fraud

A 32-year old, who claimed to be an agent for the European airline SN Brussels airline, has been refused bail after he made his first appearance in court on Tuesday for alleged fraud remanded in prison.

Thomas Koroma is standing before Magistrate Komba Kamanda of Court No. 2 in Freetown on two counts of obtaining money by false pretences after allegedly obtaining US$ 1, 300 from the complainant, Abdul Karim Kanu, on the pretext that he would provide him with an airline ticket to Ukraine.

President of the Sierra Leone Association (SLAJ) of Journalists says the current fight against money laundering and the financing of terrorism must be a collective one that involves every Sierra Leonean.

Kelvin Lewis told a press conference organized by the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) in Freetown that his association was aware of efforts by the FIU to institute policies and strategies to track down on and significantly curtail the illegal activities of money launderers and financiers of terrorism.
