Henry Fergusson School rated high

Newly appointed principal of the Henry Fergusson Junior Secondary School says the school has been ranked ninth amongst Junior Secondary Schools country-wide and fifth in the Western Area.

Mohamed Abudu Joaque said, “That is as a result of the school's recent performance at the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE)”. He said at the school’s tenth annual speech day and prize-giving ceremony, the best pupil in the BECE class for 2012/2013, Hamza Sesay, scored a remarkable aggregate 10.

Gov’t welcomes IGR

Government spokesman, Abdulai Bayraytay, has said that the government is happy about the establishment of the Institute of Governance Reform (IGR) to provide a platform for people to discuss and exchange ideas on national issues.

He told the gathering during the launch of the Think Tank at the British Council Hall in Freetown that debates would engender dialogue and help government modify its operations and also work in line with the expectations of the people.

International accreditation for Shankerdas

Executive Director of the Standards Bureau has commended food and alcohol producer, G. Shankerdas, for being accredited for “globally acceptable food safety quality and management” after an international process guided by renowned consultant and trainer Dr. Ajay Desai.

James Dumbuya said his organisation has been working over the past years to ensure that they monitor and evaluate all products of the company and to ensure that the product was of high quality and up to standards.

Forgery detected in teacher recruitment

Deputy director education south, John Swaray, has told a meeting of head teachers, principals and education stakeholders in Bo that a lot of academic documents forwarded to the ministry of education for recruitment are forged.

He said the corrupt practice was done by some teachers to convince the minister that they were qualified for recruitment. He said those documentswere rejected by the minister and there were plans to investigate possible culpability.

No room for corruption at KCC...Kenema CA assures

The newly transferred Chief Administrator to the Kenema City Council has assured the public that his administration will “ensure that there is no room for corruption and dictatorial rule”.

Daniel Saa Momoh said he was the “Moses”who had the determination to rescue the council from most of the misconceptions making the rounds about the council.

He said his administration would ensure total transparency in every activity, adding that the public always deserved to know about the running of the council.

Journalists, CSOs trained on Public Order Act

For the first time in the history of Sierra Leone, the journalists association (SLAJ), has trained journalists and members of civil society groups on the provisions of the Public Order Act No.46 of 1965.

With funds from the American Embassy in Freetown, the two-day training focused mainly on educating media practitioners and CSOs about the Public Order Act, especially sections that criminalized seditious libel and defamation.
