National Grand Chief Patron of the Sierra Leone Drivers' and General Transport Owners’ Union, Aruna Conteh aka Ambush Commander, has  revealed that there are over 600 drivers “languishing in prisons across the country”.

Alleged victim in the on-going rape trial of sacked deputy minister of education, Mahmoud Tarawally has narrated some grisly accounts to the High Court presided over by Justice Abdulai Cham on what allegedly transpired between them.

The disgraced minister was making his third appearance on four counts bordering on rape and assault.

Pupils call to end sexual abuse

A group of young girls in eastern Freetown has embarked on a sensitisation programme on sexual and gender-based violence against their fellow women, especially the stigma that comes with it.

The girls, pupils from different secondary schools in Freetown, expressed grave disappointment in parents who use their children for revenue generation, saying most of these parents were responsible for their children’s downfall.

Liberia's president to account for $200m

The plenary of the House of Representative in Liberia has asked President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf to account for over $200 million her government paid as lobbying fees to foreign firms in the United States of America.

The president denied the allegations, saying it was “preposterous” for anyone to believe that her government could spend such an amount but admitted that only the US firm KRL lobbied on behalf of Liberia from 2007 to 2013 and was paid a little over $368,000.

Kenema to go pipe borne

Chief administrator in the Kenema city council has said that there is a joint project between the town and district councils to get people within the township and its periphery to benefit from pipe borne water.

Daniel Sahr Momoh said there should have been devolution of water resources to the council since 2005 but the country’s water company has was yet to make that possible.
