Sierra Leone "extremely at risk"

Minister of State in the Office of the Vice President says Sierra Leone is ranked 3rd amongst countries that are “extremely at risk” in the area of climate change.

Harriette Turay said this was according to the 2014 climate change vulnerability report of ‘Maplecroft’.

Govt loses $ 600 million to companies

A new report out today says Sierra Leone lost an annual average of US$ 200 million from 2010 - 2012 to mostly iron ore miners African Minerals and London Mining Company.

If tax expenditure continues in its present trend, it is likely that Sierra Leone will lose more than US$240m a year from tax incentives in the coming years, the report adds.

EU intensifies the Ebola fight

The European Union is stepping up its efforts to contain the spread of the Ebola outbreak in West Africa and has increased its funding for immediate health operations, experts and risk assessments to €1.1 million, and is contributing with medical equipment to help accelerate diagnosis, according to a release from the EU Delegation in Freetown.
