MPs summon NASSIT defaulters again

Local Councils owing the National Social Security and Insurance Trust, NASSIT, are before the parliamentary committee on labour after they were last summoned and given an ultimatum of one month within which to pay all their debts.

Ebola riots in eastern Sierra Leone

Police in Kenema say they had to fire teargas to dispatch a crowd of angry youths and family members who had gathered at the government hospital demanding the release of their relatives that reportedly died of Ebola.

Community relations officer of the regional police division, Sergeant 10322 Kamara Prince Jaygboi, confirmed that police intervention helped protect the hospital and medical practitioners who were undersiege.

UN fears Ebola is dangerous for Sierra Leone

New UN envoy and resident coordinator in Sierra Leone says the outbreak of the Ebola haemorrhagic virus is “indeed dangerous for the country” and calls for strong leadership from the health authorities.

The Australian born diplomat, David Mclachlan-Karr, said the ministry of health was required to coordinate international and national efforts to contain the outbreak and to treat the victims. Over 60 people now been killed by the fever in less than six weeks, according to the ministry of health.

Two drown in Kono again

Two people, a 31-year old pregnant woman and a 14-year old boy, have drowned in non-operational mining pits at Down Ballop and Bakundu communities respectively in Koidu town, Kono district.

The apparently epileptic pregnant woman, FindaLebbie, drowned on 22 June while the boy, Mohamed BabahFofana, died the following day. This year alone police in the diamond mining district said they had recorded over 15 cases of drowning.

HRCSL ‘Go Live’ on case management

Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone, HRCSL, with support from the UN development programmehas introduced its ‘Go Live’ on their case management system. The case management system is a web application for managing information about human rights violations and it is exclusively used through an internet browser.
