We can beat Ebola - US Chargé assures Sierra Leone

The Charge d’Affaires at the United States Embassy has assured that Sierra Leone can beat Ebola if only people have the proper precautions.

Kathleen FitzGibbon was speaking while discussing with journalists on her thoughts about the outbreak shortly after presenting some hospital equipment to the 34 Military Hospital.

The Parliamentary Committee on Defense and National Security has instructed the District Security Committee (DISC) and the police to bring to book the Paramount Chief alleged to have beaten up a soldier on deployment at his chiefdom in 2012.

The committee made this call during a fact-finding mission in Kono district on the causes of the frequent violence in the district.

Sierra Leone Police clash with importers' union

Police yesterday clashed with protesting traders in parts of the Freetown business district using teargas to break up what the constabulary described as an “illegal demonstration” leaving all shops bolted. It left the centre of the capital. Police spokesman, Assistant Superintendent Ibrahim Samura confirmed that seven people were arrested and would be charged "for riotous conduct in the next 48 hours".
