Sex offence, Pujehun administrator to face high court

A Magistrate, sitting in the southern district town of Pujehun, has committed for trial in the High Court in Bo a case of sexual penetration of a minor involving the assistant procurement officer of the Pujehun District Council.

Magistrate Alford Fidawi said Allieu Vandi, who told the police he was 19 years old, had a case to answer in the High Court on two counts of sexual penetration against a child and meeting a child for sexual purposes, with the Sexual Offences Act 2012 being his instrument.

Kono Education Office to account for Le 52 m.

The Parliamentary Committee on Transparency and Accountability has ordered the Kono District Education Office to account for the "misused and misappropriated sum of Le 52m " which is just over half the amount allocated to them under the Decentralisation Service Delivery Project (DSDP) for the procurement of school furniture.

61 journalists killed so far this year

61 journalists have been killed so far this year in 22 countries around the world, according to the Press Emblem Campaign (PEC). The figures are higher than that of the first 6 months of 2013 where the number of killed journalists stood at 59 journalists.

PEC Secretary-General, BlaiseLempen said there was no improvement in the protection of journalists. He added that the great number of conflicts had increased dramatically the risks facing media workers.

More than 100 nurses of the Government Hospital in Kenema Monday downed their tools and deserted the hospital after a heated general meeting.

It came a day after three of their colleagues died of Ebola, the largest single recorded number of deaths of health workers since the outbreak in May.
