Sierra Leone, South Africa waive visas for their diplomatic and service passport holders

As a means to strengthen bilateral relations between Sierra Leone and South Africa, both African nations have agreed on waiving visas for holders of Diplomatic and Service passports from the two countries, as confirmed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

The agreement was made during a courtesy visit by the South African High Commissioner to Sierra Leone, Grace Jeanet Mason to the Foreign Affairs Minister of Sierra Leone, Timothy Musa Kabba in Freetown on 2nd November 2023.

Guinea recaptures ex-junta leader freed after a prison break

Former Guinean Junta Leader Captain Dadis Camara and several of his compatriots have been recaptured after they were freed from a Prison in the capital Conakry early Saturday morning amidst a barrage of gunfire, a reliable source in the city told Politico.

The source said Camara and one other prisoner were later cornered during which there was a heavy exchange of gunfire and  Camara and the other  eventually got captured.

British High Commissioner, ARIA partner to support SMEs in Sierra Leone

The British High Commissioner to Sierra Leone, Lisa Jane Chesney, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with a British-led International Investment Fund, Africa Resilience Investment Accelerator (ARIA) that is to support Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the country.

The event at the residence of the British High Commissioner, on Thursday 2nd November, 2023 attracted entrepreneurs in Sierra Leone and senior Government officials including the Chief Minister, Dr David Moinina Sengeh.

ACC warns school principals against “illegal charges”

Following release of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results in the country by the Ministry of Basic and Senior School Education (MBSSE), the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has cautioned Principals of Senior Secondary Schools against extortion and levying of illegal charges on parents.

The commission held the discussions with the School Authorities at a meeting in Freetown on the 3rd October 2023.

Union of Academic staff associations calls for urgent membership resolutions

Following receipt and dissemination of the correspondence from the Ministry of Technical and Higher Education (MTHE) regarding the Ministry's position on concerns raised by the Union of Academic Staff Associations (UASA), the Union has called on its membership to harvest their responses and resolutions with timelines.

UASA held a retreat in Bo on 28 – 29 September 2023 and dialogue sessions at the Family Kingdom Resort in Freetown on 30 October and 1 November, where they expressed several concerns about the ministry.
