Mano Koya blames deaths on EOC

Head of Mano Koya, a community in Sierra Leone’s Western Rural District, has expressed frustration, disappointment while blaming Ebola related deaths on the slow response of the Ebola Emergency Operations Center.

Constituency 107 starts Ebola sensitisation

Constituency 107, which covers part of the slums at Kroobay in central Freetown, Sunday 28 September, 2014 witnessed its first sensitisation campaign since the outbreak of Ebola virus in May that has killed over 500 people.

Chairman for the governing All Peoples’ Congress in the area, Mohamed Wusu Conteh, told a gathering at Lightfoot Boston Street that their member of parliament, Osho Williams, had traveled abroad to seek better medication which had caused a slight delay for the campaigns to kick off as planned.

Kenya Airways resumes flight to Sierra Leone october

After an assessment of the Freetown International Airport, Kenya Airways is to resume operations to Sierra Leone, five weeks since the east African carrier suspended flights to the country due to Ebola.

General Manager of the Sierra Leone Airports Authority, John Sesay, said the airlines had made the decision after a thorough consideration with the Kenyan government, adding that they had stopped operations in the country because they were forced by the Kenyan government to do so.

Sierra Leone quarantines 3 districts

In a late night nationwide address President Ernest Bai Koroma announced the isolation of three districts - Port Loko, Bombali and Moyamba - in a bid to stem the spread of Ebola. This, three days after a three-day nationwide lockdown.

The measure which comes into immediate effect is indefinite.

The president said "Corridors for travel to and from non-quarantined districts are hereby established, but vehicles and travellers must not alight within the quarantined districts, and must only travel along the corridors between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm".

Sierra Leone FA challenges sports minister

Differences have emerged between the Ministry of Sport and the Football Association over the appointment of a new technical team for Leone Stars, following the shock dismissal of Irish coach, Johnny McKinstry.

The Sierra Leone Football Association has written to the Ministry of Sport requesting them to rescind the appointment of former Sierra Leone international, John Sama as assistant head coach and replace him with FC Johnasen coach, John Keister.

600 locked down in Pujehun, Sierra Leone

The authorities in the southern district of Pujehun have described the town of Zimmi and the outlying village of Dumagbe as "a serious security threat in the fight against Ebola" and called for the intervention of the military and  the police to stabilise the situation.

The Pujehun District Medical Officer, Dr. David Bome said Dumagbe village with a population of 590 people and three houses in Zimmi town with 32 residents have been quarantined.
